Celebrate UTA Homecoming With a Week Full of Events

UTA Homecoming

"More Spirit. All Maverick." That is theme for the 2019 UTA Homecoming festivities. The University has a week full of events planned to get students involved, welcome alumni home and show the world what Maverick pride looks like.

Monday, Nov. 4

"Decorate Downtown" begins

UTA student organizations are teaming up with businesses in Downtown Arlington to decorate their storefronts, and let everyone know it's Homecoming week. Cast your vote for the most spirited business on the Homecoming Facebook page for the Peoples Choice award. A Judges Choice award will also be announced at the Homecoming basketball game.

Paint Your Ride with Mavericks Pride
Arlington Hall Turnaround, West Hall Turnaround, Parking Lot F49
11 a.m. - 1 p.m.

All UTA students, staff, faculty, alumni and community members are encouraged to drive by this tradition. Freshman Leaders on Campus paint your vehicle windows with Maverick pride you can show throughout town during Homecoming week.

Tuesday, Nov. 5

"Decorate Downtown" continues 

Creation Donation
8 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Student organizations will compete against one another to build structures using only canned food. The structures will be judged based on the number of cans included, adherence to the Homecoming theme, creativity and structural integrity. The competition benefits the UTA food pantry.

UTA Men's Basketball Home Opener
College Park Center
7 p.m.

Join UTA Basketball for their home opener when they take on UT Dallas at College Park Center. All students receive free admission.

Wednesday, Nov. 6

Exchange those old school rags for designer Maverick duds. Stop by the Ambassador table to bring in any non-UTA collegiate T-shirt, and it will be swapped out for a free UTA Homecoming T-shirt. (T-shirts are for sale at the UTA Bookstore.)

Chili Cook-Off
Brazos Park
12 p.m. - 1:30 p.m.

Can you handle the heat? Join the Homecoming crew and the Division of Student Affairs for the annual Chili Cook-Off. Teams will compete to win the ultimate prize of Chili Cook-Off champion, bragging rights and an awesome trophy. The event is open to all UTA, students, faculty, staff, and alumni groups.

Thursday, Nov. 7

Join the UTA Libraries in a Texas homecoming tradition of mum making. Bring a friend, make memories, and get into the Homecoming spirit. Don’t know what a mum is? Stop by and find out.

Friday, Nov. 8

"Decorate Downtown" continues

Movin’ Mavs and Lady Movin’ Mavs Homecoming Wheelchair Basketball Tournament
Physical Education Building and Maverick Activities Center

Top college men's and women's teams from around the U.S. go head-to-head in the National Wheelchair Basketball Association Intercollegiate Division Regional Tournament. The tournament will feature several Paralympians, World Championship players, and USA National Team members. Games will go all day Friday and Saturday and include local team play on Sunday morning. UTA Volleyball vs. Arkansas State

6:30 p.m.

Join UTA Volleyball for Military Appreciation Night as the team takes on Arkansas State at College Park Center. All military personnel receive two free tickets to the match. Just show your military ID at the box office.

Distinguished Alumni Awards

This annual awards dinner is a night to recognize distinguished alumni for their individual achievements, contributions to their industries or professions, service to their community and demonstrated loyalty to UTA.

Movin' Mavs and Lady Movin' Mavs Homecoming Wheelchair Basketball Tournament continues

A four-person golf scramble with fellow Mavericks to kick-off Homecoming day. Enjoy breakfast, lunch, prizes and 18 holes of golf at Waterchase Golf Club for only $55 per person or $220 per team. Open to UTA alumni, friends, faculty, staff, students, and parents. Click here to register. 

Homecoming 5K Run/Walk/Roll

This year’s Homecoming route is a scenic one through the UTA campus. All proceeds will go to the UTA Emergency Assistance Fund. Open to all UTA students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community members. Click here to register.

School of Social Work Homecoming Pre-Game

UTA's School of Social Work (SSW) invites you to the 2019 UTA Homecoming Pre-Game Party. Come dressed in your best UTA gear to show your Mavericks spirit and join us for an amazing time of BBQ, drinks, music and games. Don't miss out on bounce houses, face painting, balloon animals and live music. SSW faculty, staff, alumni, graduate students, prospective students, and SSW family and friends are all invited. Come early for a chance to win tickets to the UTA men's basketball game.

Black Maverick Homecoming Mixer

The Black Maverick Homecoming Mixer is a family-friendly event for current students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends of the UTA black community. Come and enjoy great music, performances and win some door prizes.

Join your fellow Mavericks and cheer on the men’s and women’s basketball teams at their games on Saturday, Nov. 9. The women’s game tip-off is scheduled for 2:30 p.m., while the men tip-off at 7 p.m. The $20 ticket price includes your ticket to both games in the alumni reserved section, free popcorn and a $5 contribution to support alumni programs at UTA. Take it to the streets, Maverick style. Celebrate Homecoming at the annual Street Festival, featuring a variety of exciting activities. Get into the Maverick spirit and enjoy fun games, complimentary food and drink, a live DJ, street performers and more.

The Shorthorn Centennial Homecoming Alumni Get-Together

Stop by The Shorthorn office Saturday during Homecoming festivities for a get-together to close out our centennial year. Bring your family, mingle with Shorthorn alumni, enjoy some food and stay for the Homecoming parade and basketball games.

Join your fellow Brazooonians for a reception and group photo at Brazos Park. Included in your registration is entry into the Brazos House Alumni Reception; full access to the Party on the Plaza, including 1 free drink ticket, a ticket in the alumni reserved section for both the women's and men's basketball games, and a $5 contribution to support alumni programming at UTA. Join your fellow UTA alumni to celebrate Homecoming with the annual Party on the Plaza. There will be music, food and drinks and a chance to wear your orange and blue with UTA style and pride. Adult admission is $25 and includes your game ticket, appetizers, and one drink coupon (cash bar available), and a $5 gift to support alumni programming. Tickets for children through age 12 are $10 and include the game, appetizers and a soft drink. Feel free to come and go to all of the street festival activities and watch the Homecoming parade with the best view from the College Park Center Northwest Deck prior to cheering on the Mavericks at the Homecoming game vs. Tulsa. Recognized groups will include alumni from fraternity and sorority life, spirit groups, and athletics. Click here for tickets.

Parade and Pep Rally

5:15 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.

This year’s Homecoming Parade starts with a grand production number not to be missed. After that, the parade procession begins. There will be floats, marching bands, special guests and the traditional decorated golf carts. It all winds up with a pep rally in front of College Park Center. All student, faculty, and staff groups are invited to participate in the parade! This year’s theme is "Superheroes: Not All Mavericks Wear Capes!"
