Unity Council

The City of Arlington is seeking volunteers to apply for the newly created Unity Council.

The purpose of the 25-member Arlington Unity Council is to gather community input on the need to use equitable measures to build greater equality, study equity strategies that the City could implement to promote and encourage greater equality, and report to the City Council on its findings and recommendations.

The Unity Council will comprise the 15-member Community Relations Commission and 10 members of the community who will be appointed by the Mayor and City Council. Applications received on or before July 1 will be reviewed by Council for possible appointments on July 7.

The Arlington City Council is set to appoint the Unity Council later this summer. The council’s meeting schedule will be determined in August, followed immediately by community dialogue and a review of equity case studies and best practices. The Unity Council is expected to present its recommendations to the City Council early next year.
