On Wednesday, October 6, 2021, at approximately 9:15 a.m., the Arlington Police Department responded to reports of shots fired inside Timberview High School, which is located at 7700 S. Watson Road. Although the school is part of the Mansfield Independent School District, the campus sits within Arlington city limits, prompting our response.

With the assistance of Mansfield ISD staff, the Mansfield ISD Police Department, Mansfield Police Department, and Grand Prairie Police Department, the school was immediately placed on lockdown and secured. Officers quickly determined the suspected shooter left the campus following the shooting and there was no longer an active threat inside the building.

The incident occurred in a classroom on the second floor of the school. Investigators believe a physical fight broke out just prior to the shooting. A total of four people were injured during the incident. One adult was treated and released at the scene for minor injuries. Three others were transported to a local hospital:

  • A 15-year-old male with gunshot wounds, who is currently listed in critical condition
  • A 25-year-old male with gunshot wounds, who is currently listed in good condition
  • A teenage female who had abrasions and has since been treated and released from the hospital

With the help of witnesses, officers were able to quickly identify the suspect as 18-year-old Timothy Simpkins. An area wide search was immediately launched. Just before 1:15 p.m., Mr. Simpkins came to the Ott Cribbs Public Safety Center with an attorney and turned himself in without incident.

He has since been booked into the Arlington City Jail on three counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. His booking photo is attached to this release. Bond has been set at $75,000.

Once security sweeps of the school were complete, all remaining students at Timberview High School were safely evacuated and bussed to an off-site reunification center where they were released to their families.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.

We would like to thank our employees, as well as our local, state, and federal partners that assisted with the initial response and that are continuing to assist with the investigation. The Arlington Police Department will take the lead on the criminal case.
