The City of Arlington put technology to work Thursday evening with its latest telephone town hall meeting. Mayor Jeff Williams was joined by City leaders and health experts to answer residents’ coronavirus questions.

More than 5,900 residents participated in the call, which covered a range of topics from testing availability to reopening the City. For the first time, an interpreter was provided for Spanish-speaking residents. Nearly 200 callers chose to participate in Spanish.

“We were very excited to be able to offer an option to participate in these tele-town hall events to our Spanish-speaking residents,” said Jay Warren, director of Communication and Legislative Affairs for the City of Arlington. “As the data shows, coronavirus has disproportionately impacted the African American and Latino populations of Arlington and it is critical that we do everything we can to reach these portions of our community with important information about the pandemic and how we can work together to stop the spread.”

Participants were also given the option to designate themselves as a senior in need of assistance. About 100 residents chose this option, and the City will be following up to ensure their needs are met.
