Do you ever wonder what happens to all the lost-and-found items that go unclaimed at Six Flags Over Texas?

The park auctions them off and donates all proceeds to the Arlington Police Department's annual Santa Cops program.

"We feel an obligation to give back to the community," said Steve Martindale, Park President of Six Flags Over Texas. "And working with Santa Cops is really a good thing to do."

This month, the park presented Arlington Police Chief Will Johnson and members of the Arlington Police Association with a check for $10,000.

"This is really thematic of what Six Flags represents -- trying to make people excited and have a good time," said Johnson. "There's kids that are going to be smiling even bigger than we were today."

Arlington PD's Santa Cops program was started more than 30 years ago by two patrol officers who wanted to ensure that several families they had come into contact with had a good Christmas.

The first year, they provided gifts and other items to five families. This year, Santa Cops anticipates helping 450 families across the city.

If you'd like to help, you can bring any new, unwrapped toy to any one of the city's four police substations between now and December 2.
