Parking lot at River Legacy Park

Work is underway to install lighting in two additional parking lots at the popular River Legacy Park in north Arlington.

The Arlington City Council approved a construction contract in December with I.S. Construction Group, LLC. to install the lighting in parking lots No. 2 and No. 3 for an amount not to exceed $104,997. The project, which started in late April, is expected to be complete within 60 calendar days.

Safety and security within the parks system is a top priority for the Parks and Recreation Department. One of the most effective ways to accomplish this is through adequate lighting. Lighting makes the environment more visible, providing a level of safety and security to citizens who use the parks. The Parks and Recreation Department has been working to improve security lighting within River Legacy Park with the addition of lighting to parking lot No. 1 last fall. The River Legacy Trail System includes 10 parking lots total and all have existing lighting except for Lot No. 2 and No. 3.

The River Legacy Nature Center opened to the public in 1996 and features interactive exhibits, aquariums and terrariums with native animals, environmental education programs, a gift shop and nature trails. River Legacy Parks, the crown jewel of Arlington’s park system, is a 1,300-acre urban oasis that follows the curves of the Trinity River. Amenities include miles of hike and bike trails, picnic areas, pavilions, playgrounds, river overlooks as well as a canoe launch.

I.S. Construction Group, LLC, a woman-owned business from Springtown, has committed to meeting the City’s goal of 13.05% Minority and Women-Owned Business Enterprise (MWBE) participation on this project.
