School is back in session, but we're holding on to what's left of summer. If you're hoping to get a few more pool days in, Arlington Parks & Recreation has you covered. In this edition of Neighborhood Network News, we'll help you get some quality time outdoors — relaxing in the sun or volunteering to keep Arlington beautiful.

Here's your new to-do list.

✅ Close out summer with a splash

It's not too late to enjoy time at the pool. Arlington's Bad Königshofen and Randol Mill Family Aquatic Centers are open weekends through Labor Day, September 2. (And the Hugh Smith indoor pool is open year-round.)

✅ Help keep Arlington beautiful

Saturday, August 24 is your next chance to serve the community and keep our hometown shining. Volunteers are needed for a cleanup event in the Phillips Park neighborhood. Meet at Greater Community Missionary Baptist Church (126 E. Park Row Drive) at 8 a.m. Cleanup runs through 11 a.m. Then, head back to the church for a cookout.

Weigh in on the next City budget

Arlington's proposed 2020 operating budget is available now. You can read all about it here (you'll continue to receive the same great City services at a lower tax rate.) Then, come weigh in at one of two town hall meetings:

  • August 29, 6:30 p.m. at the Arlington Police South District
  • September 5, 6:30 p.m. at Arlington City Hall

✅ Learn about the program keeping students safe

Arlington Police and Arlington ISD are working together on a new program this school year, to keep students safe. The organizations have partnered with a mental health group to identify at-risk students. You can learn more here.
