Arlington's Leaf Recycling Program Runs From Nov. 14, 2022, Through Jan. 16, 2023

The annual free leaf recycling program runs through Jan. 16, 2023. The City of Arlington encourages residents to participate in the annual free program to help reduce landfill waste and promote environmental stewardship. All of the collected leaves will be mulched, and will be free to Arlington residents in the spring (based on availability). Holiday Grease Roundup Runs Through Jan. 9, 2023

Residents can protect their home plumbing system and prevent sewer backups by recycling used cooking oil and grease at three locations in Arlington this holiday season. The 2022 Holiday Grease Roundup started on Monday, Nov. 14, and will run through Monday, Jan. 9, 2023.

During the Holiday Grease Roundup, residents can drop off used cooking oil and grease in receptacles in the parking lots at:

• Cravens Park, 400 Cravens Park Drive, 76018 (5 a.m. to 10 p.m., seven days a week)
• Dottie Lynn Recreation, 3200 Norwood Lane, 76013 (5 a.m. to 10 p.m., seven days a week)
• Trinity River Authority, 5300 South Collins St., 76018 (8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday – Friday)

Shop Small on Small Business Saturday, Nov. 26

You might not realize it, but every time you pick up a cup of coffee from your favorite Arlington neighborhood café or buy a gift from a local artist or boutique’s online store, you're shopping small and making a difference. Shop Small is a movement that supports small, independent businesses and calls attention to the valuable and distinct contributions they make to their communities and the economy.

Donate or Volunteer for the Holidays at Mission Arlington

Mission Arlington is gearing up for its annual Thanksgiving meal distribution in The American Dream City. On Thanksgiving morning, Nov.24, 2022, starting at 8 a.m., Mission Arlington will deliver turkeys, hams, food baskets, and cooked meals to the homes of more than 6,000 families. It's a monumental task made possible by hundreds of volunteers. They've been hard at work cooking and packing meals, but the work isn't done. More volunteers are needed on Thanksgiving morning to distribute the food. Here’s how you can help:

• Donate Thanksgiving food: Turkeys, hams, stuffing mix, canned fruit, canned sweet potatoes, canned pie filling, cranberry sauce, box/mashed potatoes, macaroni & cheese, beans/rice, tuna, peanut butter, rolls, pie crust
• Volunteer before Thanksgiving Day to pack and prepare Thanksgiving baskets, receive, sort, organize, and distribute incoming Thanksgiving food.
• Volunteer on Thanksgiving Day to deliver food to families in need.
