On Thursday, November 10, 2022, at approximately 5:23 p.m., the Arlington Police Department was notified of a possible suicidal subject. A short time later, a fire broke out at that individual’s home in the 600 block of E Lynn Creek Drive.

The Arlington Fire Department responded to the scene and put out the fire. Once first responders were able to safely enter the home, they located a teenage girl inside with an apparent gunshot wound. She was transported to a nearby hospital where she was later pronounced deceased. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified her as 15-year-old Mattie Prescott. Her death has been ruled a homicide.

As crews continued to search the home, they also located a 51-year-old woman with an apparent gunshot wound. She was pronounced deceased at the scene. The Tarrant Medical Examiner’s Office has identified her as Jennifer Prescott, Mattie Prescott's mother. Her death has been ruled a suicide.

Investigators believe she shot and killed her daughter, started the fire, then turned the gun on herself.

 The investigation is ongoing.
