Some Arlington ISD students got a firsthand lesson in heroism Monday. Medal of Honor recipient Captain Florent "Flo" Groberg visited Roark Elementary to speak to students and thank them for their support.
The students participated in the National Medal of Honor Museum Foundation's Mail Call program, which invites the public to write letters to Medal of Honor recipients. The General Motors Arlington Assembly helped organize the effort.
“General Motors Arlington Assembly is proud to support the National Medal of Honor Museum and help raise awareness of distinguished Americans like Captain Florent A. Groberg,” said Bill Kulhanek, Plant Executive Director of General Motors Arlington Assembly. “We are grateful for the opportunity to join with students from Roark Elementary School in marking Captain Groberg’s visit to Arlington.”
Many students included thank you messages and drawings in their letters to Roark.
"I want to say 'Thank you' to every single one of you for taking the time out of your busy schedule, your busy school day, to write these awesome letters," Roark said. "It's just a reminder of what this country stands for."
