LoneStar Bomberos is a nonprofit organization with the goal of supporting and educating fire departments that are in need of assistance. For almost three years, the group has managed to build relationships in several Latin American countries including Mexico and Ecuador, and they want to continue expanding the relationship between countries in Central and South America.

Since the beginning of 2019, LoneStar Bomberos has helped 28 municipalities in five states in Mexico by making donations of personal protective equipment for firefighters, hoses, fire extinguishers, masks, among other things. In addition, the nonprofit has provided training to dozens of firefighters in Mexico. These training sessions include:

  • Firefighter safety and practices
  • Medical services
  • Specialized training such as hazardous materials, rope rescue, etc.
  • Training on specialized equipment that has been donated
  • Leadership
  • Using social media to send training documents and videos in Spanish
  • Ongoing efforts to support the group’s mission

The instructors who travel to teach the training must speak Spanish, must be certified Texas firefighters and EMT/paramedics, pay for their own flight, lodging and services.

The donations they have made in Mexico come from various fire departments throughout the state, including Plano, Rowlett, Princeton, and the Arlington Fire Department. The next donation will be for a fire department in Santo Domingo, Ecuador which will take place at the beginning of January 2022.

Twelve Arlington firefighters are part of the organization, but they are looking for more members in different areas of the Metroplex.
