 Lunch program

The Arlington Public Library is a place to feed more than just a child’s mind. This summer, children ages 1-18 can receive a free lunch every weekday at four library locations. The Library joins CitySquare Food on the Move and other Arlington institutions to provide free meals to children from June 5 to August 9. Lunches will be available at the Downtown Library as well as the Woodland West, Southeast and East Arlington Branches.

This is the Library’s fourth summer providing meals in partnership with CitySquare Food on the Move, a federally-funded nutrition program that meets the needs of children who might go hungry outside of school. CitySquare is one of the largest nonprofit at-risk food sponsors in Texas. Last summer, the Arlington Public Library and CitySquare served 3,282 free lunches.

“Modern libraries are community hubs,” says Stacy Garcia, Library Administrator for Programming and Community Engagement. “It’s a priority for us to support Arlington’s children and families. Working with CitySquare to provide lunches is a natural extension of our other programs this summer, like Summer Reading Club.”

Summer meals are available every Monday through Friday between June 5 and August 9 at the following times:

  • George W. Hawkes Downtown Library, 10:45 to 11:15 a.m.
  • Woodland West Branch, 11:30 a.m. to noon
  • Southeast Branch Library, 12:15 to 12:45 p.m.
  • East Arlington Branch, 1 to 1:30 p.m.

No lunches will be served on July 4, when all Library locations will be closed for Independence Day, or on July 5.

Lunches must be eaten at the library, but there are no income requirements to participate. The menu varies each day, but every lunch provides a nutritionally complete, full meal. Registration is not necessary to participate. Simply come to the library and enjoy lunch.
