Kimberly Drive Completion

The Public Works and Transportation Department is pleased to announce the reopening of the newly rebuilt section of Kimberly Drive, from Sherry Street to 300 feet west of Monaco Drive. This project, which began in September 2019, was partially funded by Community Development Block Grants.

In addition to creating a longer lasting and smoother roadway for drivers, other improvements made include:

  • Water and sanitary sewer line renewals
  • Installation of new streetlights
  • Construction of ADA compliant pedestrian ramps on Sherry Street

The City uses an annual pavement survey program to inventory the condition of all streets within the city limits. The condition of each street segment is reported as an Overall Condition Index (OCI) Rating between 0-100 based on the “ride” and “distress” of the segment. Roads with a rating lower than 50 are called “red streets” and recommended for inclusion in the department’s Capital Improvement Program. Roads with a rating between 50 and 70 are called “yellow” streets and are included in the City’s Street Maintenance Program. The current OCI rating for this section of roadway is 100. This is a 76-point increase from its preconstruction rating of 24.

This project is partially funded by a Community Development Block Grant. The City of Arlington has received this grant for more than 44 years and uses the funds to improve neighborhood infrastructure, parks, homes, and community services.

Residents can learn more about roadway, drainage, and water projects currently under construction throughout Arlington using the City’s interactive Street Tracker map. This tool integrates live data so that up-to-date project information is always available.
