Jambo’s BBQ on Division Street, Arlington Historical Society, and Arlington Landmark Preservation Commission have joined forces to recognize the oldest continuously operating restaurant in Arlington for National Preservation Month.

A year-long anniversary of the legendary, 90-year-old Arlington Steak House site features a weekend – May 20-23, 2021 – to recognize the restaurant’s fifth anniversary in the historic location.

“We are thrilled to partner with two well-known local groups to help us celebrate and preserve a local institution,” said Paul Lovato, Jambo’s BBQ owner and pitmaster. “Insights and archival records from the Arlington Landmark Preservation Commission and the Arlington Historical Society have been priceless in remembering a building that dates to 1931. We owe a tremendous debt to Sarah Stubblefield and Geraldine Mills for all of their work and research.”

Lovato shared more about the events of Birthday Weekend.

“Thursday, May 20, is the actual restaurant birthday. From 11-1, the owner of a 1940s car will be showing it off while dressed in vintage wear. Inside, we will have photos and other artifacts from that period on display while long-time residents dine and share stories. Those famous yeast rolls from the Arlington Steak House are available. Additionally, we will have birthday cake from Emotions Made Edible, while it lasts.

“Friday night, the 21st, is live music from Vinyl Destination, a popular local act. Saturday night is a private dinner for friends of the Fielder House Museum and Arlington Historical Society. And Sunday is a classic car show from 12-2 with more live music planned inside. It should be an outstanding weekend for restaurant fans from yesterday and today.”

Marketing Manager David Sanders added, “Saturday, May 22nd, is also Paul’s birthday. He asked us not to make a fuss or big deal about it. So, of course, we are making a fuss and big deal about it. Come out Saturday to say Happy Birthday and for more birthday cake!”
