The Arlington Police Department has been notified by hospital staff that the 52-year-old victim of a shooting that occurred on Monday, May 16, 2022 at an apartment complex in the 2600 block of Alexis Avenue has died from his injuries.

The suspected shooter, 31-year-old Brian Espy, was taken into custody on Wednesday, May 17, 2022 and was initially charged with one count of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and one count of Aggravated Robbery. With this latest development, his charge will upgraded to Capital Murder.

Officers also arrested 24-year-old Quyanna Massie in connection with this incident. She was booked into the Arlington City Jail on one count of Aggravated Robbery.

On May 16, the victim and one of his employees drove to the apartment complex in the 2600 block of Alexis Avenue to retrieve a Jeep their business had loaned to Mr. Espy, but Mr. Espy had not returned in the agreed upon timeframe. After using a spare key to enter the Jeep, the employee told investigators he saw Mr. Espy running towards them holding a gun. Mr. Espy then fired several shots in their direction.

The employee drove the repossessed Jeep out of the complex and parked around the corner, waiting for the victim. As the victim tried to leave the complex, Mr. Espy fired multiple shots, striking and critically injuring the victim.

Mr. Espy then got into a vehicle being driven by Ms. Massie and pulled up near the employee who was around the corner waiting in the repossessed Jeep. Mr. Espy pointed the gun at the employee while demanding the employee get out of the Jeep. The employee complied and Mr. Espy drove away in the Jeep. Ms. Massie followed Mr. Espy as he drove away from the scene.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office will identify the deceased once next of kin have been notified.
