Homeownership

June is National Homeownership Month, which means it's an excellent time to launch your homeownership journey - even if you're not sure how to get started, or you're wondering if homeownership is right for you.

While anyone should feel empowered to pursue homeownership, the path to becoming a homeowner can be confusing or overwhelming. That's why the City of Arlington, Housing Channel and the Hispanic Real Estate Brokers Association (HREBA) are offering a virtual FREE homeownership fair, open to anyone, on Saturday, June 26. The event will cover:

  • The Basics of Homebuying (Homebuying 101)
  • Improving Your Credit Scores
  • How to qualify for a mortgage
  • Down payment assistance programs
  • Making a competitive offer in a hot real estate market
  • Homeowner inspections and homeowner insurance explained
  • City of Arlington programs and services

Spanish language programming will be available for each session. This is a come-and-go event; however, attendees are encouraged to login at 10 am and take advantage of the full variety of informational presentations and check out the virtual exhibitor booths.

"Many people think that homeownership is beyond their reach, particularly right now with headlines about escalating purchase prices dominating the news cycle," said Donna VanNess, president of Housing Channel, a Tarrant County-based community organization that promotes access to affordable housing. "Others see themselves as future homeowners, but don't know how to get started. At Housing Channel, we know that homeownership is the best way to build wealth and strengthen communities, so we encourage everyone to login from your laptop, table or phone and begin their homeownership journey today."

Pre-registration is required to attend the free virtual homeownership fair. Registration is now open at www.housingchannel.org.
