A project to replace several critical sections of a 42-inch water main under West Green Oaks Boulevard is halfway complete and some relief for traffic congestion at the intersection of Green Oaks and West Pleasant Ridge Road is expected soon.

Crews will begin repaving the construction area near the intersection of Green Oaks and West Pleasant Ridge by early next week. If no unexpected delays arise, traffic control measures will be modified by Monday, Aug. 12 to ease congestion in the intersection. Lane closure on Green Oaks, north of the intersection, will continue as the second half of the project is completed.

A total of 10 sections of a 42-inch water transmission main are being replaced this summer near or in the median of West Green Oaks from West Pleasant Ridge Drive to Waterview Drive. City staff are working with contractors on the site to minimize traffic disruption while maintaining a safe work environment. The project is scheduled to be completed by the time classes begin at nearby schools in late August.

A separate Water Utilities project, which involves the closure of two southbound lanes in the 2300 block of West Green Oaks Boulevard, is also scheduled to conclude before classes at Arlington ISD classes resume on Aug. 19. The work in the 2300 block involves the installation of a new 8-inch water main to improve circulation in the water distribution system. It is expected to be completed by Aug. 15.
