Arlington's Veterans Park has been transformed into a Field of Honor, covered with nearly 1,000 American flags.

The display, organized by the Arlington Veterans Park Foundation, is designed to pay tribute to veterans, active-duty military and first responders. It opened to the public at a ceremony Saturday, Sept. 7 and will remain open through Sept. 14.

The opening ceremony also included the unveiling of plans for a Korean War memorial to be installed in the park. Funds are being raised now to pay for the addition.

"It's real heartwarming to me to see the people here and all the flags commemorating this spot," said Korean War veteran Jim Clark. "It's a wonder I don't have tears in my eyes."

The Field of Honor organizers are also hosting a 9/11 remembrance ceremony and concert at Arlington's Texas Live!, near Globe Life Park. The program begins at noon, Wednesday, Sept. 11. After the ceremony, there will be live music including a free Charley Pride concert, at 4 p.m.

The Texas Rangers will also mark the anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks with members of Arlington Police and Fire Departments holding an American flag during the pre-game ceremonies. There will also be a B-2 Stealth Bomber flyover following the national anthem.
