Fatality Crash - Report #2019-02450767

The Arlington Police Department responded to a single motor vehicle crash in the 5000 block of New York Avenue on Monday, September 2, 2019 around 9:16 p.m. Multiple callers reported that a passenger vehicle struck a tree in the median. Investigators believe that the vehicle was traveling northbound in the left lane at a high rate of speed. The driver lost control and left the roadway striking a tree. The right front passenger of the vehicle, a 27 year-old man, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver was transported to a local hospital for treatment where he remains this morning.

Detectives believed that the driver, Jonathan Lopez-Bermudez, was intoxicated at the time of the crash. He has been placed under arrest at the hospital for one count of Intoxication Manslaughter. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office will identify the deceased once next of kin have been notified.
