kids reading at the library

All Arlington residents big and small are invited to experience the Arlington Public Library in a new way this summer. Discover books, art, and music and participate in digital challenges all while winning fun prizes. Our ‘Discover Summer’ program will give patrons an opportunity to experience events like beekeeping, pottery, poetic storytelling, and more!

The ‘Discover Summer’ program runs from Saturday, May 21, 2022, through Sunday, July 31, 2022, at all library locations. Originally known as our Summer Reading Challenge, this year we want to show patrons a different side of the library. Free programs, classes, concerts, and more will be available for all ages. Pick up your ‘Discover Summer’ magazine at any library location or download it today to keep up with all we have lined up!

How to Participate

Youth & Teens

Participants must log five hours of reading and complete both the Sail the Seven Seas Badge and Land Ho! Badge in the Beanstack app to complete the challenge. When finished, youth and teens will receive instructions on how they can collect their prizes. Finish additional challenges for a chance to win rewards and get tickets for prize drawings.

Adults

Participants must log ten hours of reading and obtain one activity badge in the Beanstack app to complete the challenge. Use accumulated tickets to choose which prize drawing to enter. The more challenges that are done, the more tickets you earn and the more chances to win a prize. Increase your chances of winning by participating in as many challenges as possible.

What is Beanstack?

No more paper logs, we are transitioning over to the Beanstack app. Download it today!

Beanstack is the world’s easiest way to keep track of all the books you read this summer. When you create a Beanstack account for yourself or your family, you’re instantly connected to the Arlington Public library’s reading programs, so you’ll get credit for every minute and every page. We’ll keep all your stats for you, cheer you on while you work towards your program goals, and let you know when you’ve earned prizes. When your library’s program ends, you keep your account, and your reading history—it’s always free, and you can keep right on logging your leisure reading. When the next library program comes around, no need to re-register—just click on it, and you’re in.
