Public Meeting Notice

The public is invited to learn about a $4.5 million construction project designed to ease congestion and improve infrastructure in southeast Arlington. In May, the Public Works and Transportation Department will begin transforming South Collins Street between Mayfield Road and Interstate 20 (IH-20).

This project will consist of widening Collins Street by constructing two additional lanes and adding southbound right turn lanes at both Arbrook Boulevard and IH-20. Additional improvements include replacing existing concrete panels as needed; adjusting water and sanitary sewer facilities; replacing traffic signals, street lights, pavement markings, street signs, sidewalks, fiber conduit, and median landscaping and irrigation improvements. Construction is anticipated to be completed in early 2020.

Residents who are interested in learning more about this project are encouraged to attend an informational meeting set from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., on Thursday, April 18, at the George W. Hawkes Downtown Library, (re)Brary Rooms A & B, 100 South Center Street. Information regarding Phase 2 of the 2017 Residential Rebuild and the 2019 Community Development and Block Grant (CDBG) Residential Street and Sidewalks projects will also be available at this meeting.

Funding for these projects was approved by Arlington voters as part of the $160 million street improvements package in the 2014 bond election and aligns with the City Council’s priorities to Enhance Regional Mobility and Champion Great Neighborhoods.
