The American Library Association says, “libraries are uniquely positioned to reach groups designated by the Census Bureau as 'hard-to-count' including young children, people of color, linguistic minorities and people experiencing homelessness”. According to a City University of New York Graduate Center analysis, 99 percent of historically-undercounted areas are located within five miles of a public library.
The Arlington Public Library System is committed to helping everyone in the City of Arlington count. From March 12, 2020 through April 1, 2020 citizens who do not have an Arlington Public Library card and choose not to receive one at that time may still complete the 2020 Census by receiving a 30-minute courtesy reservation at a public computer at no cost to them. Guest passes at the library are normally $1 per hour, but the library is committed to removing barriers for citizens wishing to complete the 2020 Census.
Citizens who would like to receive the 30-minute courtesy reservation will need to speak to a library staff member at the circulation desk and tell them they are there to complete the 2020 Census. The Arlington Public Library has seven locations throughout the City of Arlington and this service is available at every location.
