As the City of Arlington receives and deploys CARES Act funds, the CARES Act in Action series will take a closer look into how Arlington is using its portion to serve, support and protect Arlington residents and businesses.

The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic continues to bring uncertainty to our lives and the City wants to ensure that Arlington residents who are experiencing a housing crisis know about the resources that are available to secure housing thanks to additional funding from the CARES Act. Additionally, as of September 4, eligible residents who submit a Declaration Form to their landlord cannot be evicted for non-payment through December 31, 2020. View details on the eviction ban here.

More than $991,00 has been allocated by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to prevent homelessness and to rapidly rehouse residents who are experiencing homelessness. The City of Arlington has partnered with non-profit organizations to provide rental and utility assistance to those who qualify. If you are unable to pay rent or utilities, please explore these options to assist you and keep you in your home.

Arlington Urban Ministries Rental Assistance

Arlington Urban Ministries can provide one-time utility assistance to any Arlington resident and longer-term rental assistance for residents who are on the brink of homelessness. Rental assistance includes 3-6-month case management and financial literacy courses. Apply for assistance here.

Housing Channel Housing Resource Assistance

Housing Channel is a local nonprofit agency with HUD-certified housing advisors who are ready to assist struggling Tarrant County residents with free services for housing retention and foreclosure prevention. Services are available in English and Spanish. For more information, please call the Housing Channel at 817-924-5091 or email [email protected].

Arlington Housing Authority Rental Assistance

The Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) program provides rental assistance to low-income Arlington residents, the elderly and people with disabilities. This program serves over 3,400 households in Arlington. Applicants must meet the income requirements set by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The waiting list for the HCV program is not open so applications are not being accepted at this time, but the AHA is pulling persons from the current waiting list for the program. If you are on the waiting list, be sure you are checking your email and the AssistanceConnect portal regularly. Additional information can be found here.

Emergency Housing Rehabilitation

The AHA provides financial assistance to make repairs to eligible homeowners in the City. To be eligible, a household must earn less than 80% of the area median income based on family size. During the COVID-19 crisis, the AHA has suspended this portion of the program for the safety of our staff, contractors and homeowners. But AHA is still performing emergency repairs for eligible households which are provided in the form of a grant, up to $5,000, and are for situations or conditions that occurred recently, without warning, and that is a detriment to or a threat to life, health or safety and requires immediate action. Examples would include repair of HVAC systems during the hot summer months. Additional information can be found here.

Homeless Services

Services to assist the people who are homeless or in risk of being homeless include the Eviction-Prevention Program (HHSP), Rapid Re- Housing Program (RRHP), Supportive Housing (PSH) Program, Tenant Based Rental Assistance (TBRA), and Elderly/Disabled Mainstream Vouchers. If you think you qualify for one of these programs, click on their webpage for information about how to apply and view the eligibility requirements. Visit the homeless services page here.
