In this month's edition of Arlington Eats, host Andrew Taneilian visits Taste-Afrik as he explores The American Dream City's cultural diversity and unique cuisine.

When Lola Fajemirokun moved to Arlington in 2008, she missed the Nigerian cuisine she grew up on. She began cooking for herself and friends — and the idea for Taste-Afrik was born.

"It was my dream to have a restaurant," Fajemirokun said. "When I say I want to make African food mainstream, it's a real passion. It's a real dream."

The restaurant opened near the Parks Mall in 2017 and offers traditional dishes including tilapia and spicy grilled chicken with plantains. As part of her mission to make the food more accessible, Fajemirokun styles the plates in a way most Americans recognize.

Her food has become so popular, people around the country are asking to have it frozen and shipped. But you can experience it for yourself, right here in Arlington.

Taste Afrik is located at 1201 W. Arbrook Ste. 101. Click here to see the full menu.
