The winning students and their teachers will each receive a collection of six water-themed books, along with water bottles and other fun, water-themed prizes. Additionally, the winners from each grade will be invited to the Nov. 5, 2019, Arlington City Council meeting for recognition of their work.Water is one of the most important resources we have. It’s in our favorite drinks, we use it to cook our favorite foods and it makes up over a third of our body weight. That’s why Arlington Water Utilities is encouraging Arlington students to think about the irreplaceable role water plays in their lives and in the environment, with the Value of Water Coloring Contest.

Arlington students in kindergarten through the fourth grade are invited to enter the contest by drawing a colorful picture finishing the sentence, "Because I have water, I can…" Pre-kindergarten students can enter the contest by completing one of three coloring sheets. All of the entry forms are available online at SaveArlingtonWater.com. One winner will be chosen in each of the six grades participating (pre-k, kinder, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th).

The winning students and their teachers will each receive a collection of six water-themed books, along with water bottles and other fun, water-themed prizes. Each winner will also be given 4 tickets to The Nature of Things, River Legacy’s first traveling exhibit that runs Nov. 18 - Feb. 21. Additionally, the winners from each grade will be invited to the Nov. 5, 2019, Arlington City Council meeting for recognition of their work.

The contest will kick-off at the annual W.A.T.E.R festival, Sept. 14 at River Legacy Living Science Center. Any child who brings their entry to the Arlington Water Utilities booth at the festival will receive a neon, AWU mood pencil.

Tarrant Regional Water District, the Arlington Public Library and River Legacy Foundation are co-sponsoring the contest. Entry forms can be turned in at all Arlington Public Library locations and the River Legacy Living Science Center, 703 NW Green Oaks Blvd.

The deadline for entries is by the end of the day on Monday, Oct. 14. Winners will be announced on the Arlington Water Utilities Facebook page on Oct. 23.

Arlington Water Utilities and conservation groups nationwide are teaming up on Oct. 23 for the annual Imagine A Day Without Water campaign, which celebrates water advocacy and education.
