Services Held for Dr. Bernard Mycoskie, Texas Rangers Medical Director

Dr. Bernard John "B.J." Mycoskie, who served as the Texas Rangers Medical Director for the team's first 14 years in Arlington, died Sunday, Sept. 23, 2018, at the age of 95.
Dr. Mycoskie practiced in Arlington for more than 40 years. When he moved his family here in 1952, Arlington was a small community needing doctors. So, Dr. Mycoskie founded the Arlington Clinic along with two other Ohio State University classmates, Dr. Brentlinger and Dr. Bontley. He later served as Chief of Staff at Arlington Memorial Hospital. "Dr. Myke," as he came to be known by thousands of patients, never regretted making the decision to move to Arlington, his family said.
Prior to graduating from Ohio State University and beginning his medical career, Dr. Mycoskie served in the Medical Corps in Europe during World War II and was awarded a Bronze Star, his family said.
When the Washington Senators franchise moved to Texas in the fall of 1971, Dr. Mycoskie was appointed as the team's Medical Director and served with distinction in that role through the 1985 season, treating hundreds of Rangers players, staff, and front office employees.
Dr. Myke retired from his medical practice in 1993. Even after retirement, his family said he stayed actively involved with the Rangers' medical staff and also spent countless hours donating his time to Mission Arlington. Dr. Mycoskie also served as the City of Arlington Health Authority from 1995 to 2005.
On September 15, 1994, the Rangers dedicated a plaque to honor Dr. Mycoskie that hangs to this day in the club's Globe Life Park in Arlington Major League training room. It reads:
In recognition of his loyalty and dedication to the Texas Rangers organization and the compassion he has shown to several generations of the Rangers family.
Dr. Mycoskie was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Marie Mycoskie; and brother, Richard Mycoskie. He is survived by children, Mike and Pam Mycoskie, Phil and Diane Mycoskie, Cliff and Sally Mycoskie, Suz Mycoskie and Ginnie Combs; and a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren.
