Are you the next Pablo Picasso? Do you constantly draw and doodle? If so, join The Friends of O. S. Gray Natural Area for the Chalk the Walk sidewalk chalk art contest from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 6.

The Chalk the Walk competition is open to artists of all ages, intending to encourage members of the community to get outside and enjoy one of Arlington's great outdoor treasures. Registered participants will receive one box of chalk and a sidewalk square to create a beautiful piece of artwork for the chance to win a cash prize. The theme of the contest is "What I love about nature."

The art contest is $15 per family with children up to 8 years old, $15 per team (any age, up to 5 people), $10 for individuals who are 18 and older, $10 for individuals ages 13 to 18, and $5 for ages 9 to 12. Space is limited, and registration for this event will close at 7 p.m. October 4. For more information on registration, please visit the event Facebook page.

Prizes for each category include $75 to the first place winners, medals for second and third, and a plaque for the winner of people's choice category. Artwork will be judged on first impression, creativity, originality, skill, use of color, and representation of the theme. Children ages 8 and under will have a designated drawing area for free-play fun.

Not an artist? You are invited to help judge the People's Choice Award category beginning from noon-1:30 p.m. The Friends of O. S. Gray Natural Area has many other activities to come and enjoy, including hiking trails and playgrounds.

The event will also have food from Danielita's Restaurant, music, and guided tours of the park.
