Weekend Buzz: 10 Events in Arlington for Mother’s Day Weekend

1. 7th Annual Art on the Greene Arts Festival

The 7th Annual Art on the Greene Arts Festival is scheduled for May 11-13, 2018 at Richard Greene Linear Park in Arlington's Entertainment District. For three days, Richard Greene Linear Park will host more than 100 regional and local artists. Art lovers and collectors can purchase work in ceramic, digital, drawing, fiber, glass, jewelry, leather, metal, mixed media 2D & 3D, painting, photography, sculpture and wood. Festival admission and parking is free.

  • Friday May 11 - 3:00pm-10:00pm
  • Saturday May 12 - 11:00am-10:00pm
  • Sunday May 13 - 11:00am-5:00pm

2. Footloose: The Musical at Theatre Arlington

Footloose: The Musical bursts onto the live stage at Theatre Arlington this Friday, May 11 and runs through June 3 in Downtown. A heartfelt story about fathers and son emerges and celebrates the wisdom of listening to young people and guiding them with a warm heart and open mind, complete with all the Oscar and Tony-nominated Top-40 songs you love! Arlington Mayor Jeff Williams will make a special cameo appearance on Saturday, May 12.

  • Thursday at 7:30 p.m. (Thursday night shows begin May 17)
  • Friday & Saturday at 8 p.m.
  • Sunday at 2:00 p.m.

3. Hurricane Harbor

You've been waiting all winter, and the season is finally here! It's time to break out the swimwear, slather on the sunscreen, and dust off your sunglasses for a fun-filled season at Hurricane Harbor! This summer season is sure to rock with plenty of activities for the entire family. Cool off with the kiddos at Hook's Lagoon with four mini slides, water sprayers and shallow water to splash around in. For the thrills seekers in the family, hop onto Tornado and travel down the 132 foot slide in the mouth of a gigantic funnel. Hurricane Harbor will be open from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday.

4. Six Flags Over Texas

Six Flags Over Texas, the Thrill Capital of Texas, continues its 57th season in The American Dream City. The park will open this weekend for guests to enjoy their favorite coasters and attractions, while preparations continue for the late spring debut of the ultimate Super-Villain thrill ride-HARLEY QUINN Spinsanity. The park's operating hours are from 10:00 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday and 10:00 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Sunday. 5. Arlington Parks & Recreation's Food Truck Friday

Leave your leftovers and brown bag lunches at home. The Arlington Parks and Recreation Department's fantastic Food Truck Fridays lunch series continues in Downtown Arlington. This event will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Friday until May 18 at Founders Plaza, 100 W. Abram St. The park is located next to the Levitt Pavilion, just south of City Hall, in the heart of Downtown Arlington. Each Friday will feature a new lineup of food trucks, allowing visitors the opportunity to taste and try out different fare. The food truck line-ups will be announced the Wednesday before each event at www.naturallyfun.org/foodtruck.

6. Live Music at Grease Monkey Burger Shop & Social Club

Head over to Grease Monkey Burger Shop & Social Club in Downtown Arlington for two nights of live music this weekend. On Friday night, 57 Sauce performs at 9 p.m. On Saturday night, residents and visitors can check out Jacob Furr. Nominated for Best Folk Act and Best Album of 2012 by Fort Worth Weekly and Best Folk Rock Act of 2013, Furr's records are tributes to love, loss, memory and hope. That show gets underway at 9 p.m. Grease Monkey is located at 200 N Mesquite St, Arlington, TX 76011.

7. Live Music at J.R. Bentley's

The Tamara King Duo is set to perform this Friday, May 11, 2018 at J.R. Bentley's in Downtown Arlington. The show starts at 8 p.m. On Saturday, enjoy live music on the patio with 7th Row, 2nd Seat. That show also begins at 8 p.m. Situated in a historic home, J.R. Bentley's has the feel of an authentic English pub and features several local and area bands throughout the year. 8. Arlington Mother's Day Events & Specials

Mother's Day is coming up soon - Sunday, May 13 to be exact. Don't wait until the last minute or risk forgetting to get Mom something special. The Arlington Convention & Visitors Bureau and Downtown Arlington have complied a list of options to help you find the perfect way to show your mother how much she's appreciated. 9. Gene Watson at Arlington Music Hall

Gene Watson, one of the most masterful voices in country music today, takes the stage this Saturday, May 12, 2018 at Arlington Music Hall in Downtown. His powerful voice and multi-octave range allows him to sing some of the most challenging songs with an ease that comes from pure, natural talent as well as from his many years performing onstage. The concert gets underway at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Residents and visitors can purchase tickets for this show on the Arlington Music Hall website or call the box office at 817-226-4400.

10. Shows at UTA Planetarium

UTA Planetarium continues to offer shows to residents and visitors. This includes Spacepark 360: Infinity, a planetarium show designed to recreate the experience of amusement park thrill rides, roller coasters, pendulums, inverters and more.
