Memorial Day Weekend Buzz: 10 Events in Arlington for May 25-28, 2018

1. Levitt Pavilion Arlington's 2018 Concert Series

2018 will be a year of celebration for Levitt Pavilion Arlington as it begins its 10th year of free music. The concert season will be packed with some of the Levitt's most popular artists over the last nine years. Summer concerts continue through July 22. Fall concerts are Aug. 31 through Oct. 21. Concert nights will be Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Family Movie Night will be on Thursdays June 7 through July 12. Most concerts and movie nights are at 8 p.m. Summer concerts and movies after July 3 will begin at 8:30 p.m. For more information, please visit levittpavilionarlington.org. 2. The Market at Knapp Heritage Park

Enjoy live music and local crafts, learn about the City's pioneer past, and participate in activities such as lawn games, weaving, butter making and more at The Market at Knapp Heritage Park. The market event will take place this Saturday, May 26, 2018 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Knapp Heritage Park, 201 W. Front St. The Market events are an expansion on the Arlington Historical Society's annual Front Street Festival, which is held at Knapp Heritage Park in the fall. Parking and entry into The Market will be free, although donations to the Arlington Historical Society are appreciated.

3. Cut! Costume and Cinema at Arlington Museum of Art

The Cut! Costume and the Cinema exhibit runs through Sunday, August 12, allows visitors to step onto the movie set with 43 costumes from 27 period films. Some highlights include Johnny Depp's costume from Pirates of the Caribbean, pieces from the Costume Academy Award winner, The Duchess, and Emmy Rossum's gown from The Phantom of the Opera. The Arlington Museum of Art is located at 201 W. Main St. in Downtown Arlington's growing cultural arts district.

4. Footloose: The Musical at Theatre Arlington

Footloose: The Musical continues on the live stage at Theatre Arlington this weekend and runs through June 3 in Downtown. A heartfelt story about fathers and son emerges and celebrates the wisdom of listening to young people and guiding them with a warm heart and open mind, complete with all the Oscar and Tony-nominated Top-40 songs you love!

  • Friday & Saturday at 8 p.m.
  • Sunday at 2:00 p.m.

5. Hurricane Harbor

You've been waiting all winter, and the season is finally here! It's time to break out the swimwear, slather on the sunscreen, and dust off your sunglasses for a fun-filled season at Hurricane Harbor! This summer season is sure to rock with plenty of activities for the entire family. Cool off with the kiddos at Hook's Lagoon with four mini slides, water sprayers and shallow water to splash around in. For the thrills seekers in the family, hop onto Tornado and travel down the 132 foot slide in the mouth of a gigantic funnel. Hurricane Harbor will be open from 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday and 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Memorial Day.

6. Six Flags Over Texas

Six Flags Over Texas, the Thrill Capital of Texas, continues its 57th season in The American Dream City. The park will open Thursday through Monday during Memorial Day Weekend for guests to enjoy their favorite coasters and attractions, while preparations continue for the debut of the ultimate Super-Villain thrill ride-HARLEY QUINN Spinsanity. The park's operating hours are from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday, 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. 7. Special Olympics of Texas Summer Games

Special Olympics Texas' (SOTX) 48th annual Summer Games will return to The University of Texas at Arlington and surrounding area venues from Thursday, May 24 to Sunday, May 27. All events are free and open to the public. The four-day event is SOTX's largest competition of the year, featuring more than 3,000 athletes from all around the state of Texas. 8. Kansas City Royals vs. Texas Rangers at Globe Life Park in Arlington

The Texas Rangers host the Kansas City Royals at Globe Life Park in Arlington this Memorial Day Weekend for a four-game series. The Rangers will play at 7:05 p.m. CT on Thursday and Friday, 3:05 p.m. CT on Saturday, and at 2:05 p.m. CT on Sunday. Fans will enjoy a fireworks show after the game on Friday to kick off Star Wars Weekend. On Saturday, the first 15,000 fans will receive a Medical City Healthcare Star Wars Han Gallo Bobblehead and the first 15,000 fans will get a Carter BloodCare Rangers Cap on Sunday. 9. Live Music at Grease Monkey Burger Shop & Social Club

Head over to Grease Monkey Burger Shop & Social Club in Downtown Arlington for two nights of live music this weekend. On Friday night, Benton Lawson performs at 9 p.m. Lawson is a dynamically diverse singer, songwriter and guitarist with a unique style. On Saturday night, residents and visitors can check out Legacy 4. Audiences can expect to hear some of the greatest hits in both R&B and Motown. That show gets underway at 9 p.m. Grease Monkey is located at 200 N Mesquite St, Arlington, TX 76011.

10. Live Music at J.R. Bentley's

Davis & Rose is set to perform this Friday, May 25, 2018 at J.R. Bentley's in Downtown Arlington. The show starts at 8 p.m. On Saturday, enjoy live music from the Jax Bros. That show also begins at 8 p.m. Situated in a historic home, J.R. Bentley's has the feel of an authentic English pub and features several local and area bands throughout the year. The venue is located at 406 W Abram St, Arlington, TX 76010. You can find a complete calendar of events at www.jrbentleys.com. J.R. Bentley's is closed on Memorial Day.
