Library’s Book Sale Features Signed and First Edition Texas Books

Shop a large collection of signed and first edition Texas material at the Friends and Foundation of the Arlington Public Library's book sale, opening Wednesday, March 21. The collection, which was donated by late Arlington collector Jerry Hunt, contains the works of famed Texas writers such as Capps, Jenkins, Kelton, and McMurtry. For local history and Western buffs, these books will be the highlight the sale. Please click here to see all the books in this special collection.

"Mr. Hunt was a long-time volunteer and supporter of the Friends and the Arlington Library," said Book Sale Chairman Wayne Halliburton. "We are grateful to have this opportunity to display a small section of his marvelous collection and to raise funds for a cause he was deeply devoted to."

Featuring more than 80,000 items in 28 specialized sections and ranging from books, audio, "Best of Sale," and multiple odds and ends, the sale is open from March 21 through 25 at the Meadowbrook Recreation Center, 1400 East Dugan St.

Opening night, which is from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesdayis for members only. Memberships will be available at the door.

Other sale hours are open to the public.

  • 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 22
  • 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, March 23
  • 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, March 24
  • 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, March 25 (Sunday is half price and tax-free day.)

"Teachers and non-profit groups with identification and a small donation are invited at 5:15 p.m. Sunday to select items from the remainders," says Halliburton. "This is just a small way to pay back the community which supports us throughout the year through their donations."

Sale donations may be taken to any Arlington Public Library branch.
