Members of East Arlington Renewal recently celebrated the groundbreaking of Bel Air, a redevelopment project that will transform the site of what was once a dilapidated apartment complex near the General Motors Assembly Plant into affordable, quality housing for nearly 50 families.

The non-profit Housing Channel 's Bel Air development on East Abram Street is just one of numerous projects championed over the years by East Arlington Renewal, a civic organization led by residents from multiple neighborhoods who are dedicated to the beautification and revitalization of East Arlington.

The citizen group, formed in the early 1980s, works closely with the City of Arlington, the Arlington Independent School District, churches, Citizens on Patrol groups, business owners and other community stakeholders to make their East Arlington neighborhoods great places to live, work, play and learn.

"We are all about elevating East Arlington, " East Arlington Renewal President Sue Phillips said.
