Winter has only been here a few weeks, but it's brought frigid temperatures, a New Year, and the announcement of this year's federal tax season. According to the IRS, this year's tax season will run from January 29 to April 17, 2018. Preparing taxes can be intimidating, but the Arlington Public Library and AARP are ready to help Arlington residents with free resources.

While Library staff cannot offer financial or legal advice, they're glad to help residents find information.

"Every year I come to the Library to find what I need to do my taxes," says Helen, a long-time Arlington resident. "I used to pick up my forms at my branch. Now the librarians help me print them to take home."

Library branches will have a limited number of paper forms available later in the season. Tax forms are available now in printable formats on the IRS's website: http://www.irs.gov/forms Printing is available at all Library locations.

Patrons who want additional help with their taxes can visit AARP's Tax Aide from February 1 to April 17 at most Arlington Public Library locations. This free service is aimed at seniors and low- to moderate-income families. AARP Tax Aide is offered on a first-come, first-serve basis. Sign up in person, on days with scheduled tax assistance, to be seen. Check the Library's calendar listings for dates, locations, and information on what to bring.
