Homeschooling families, start off the new year with classes and events to enhance your family's learning. Every student is different, so the Arlington Public Library offers programs for a range of interests and ages. Whether your homeschool kids are interested in STEM, crafts, stories, or just meeting new friends, there is a program series for you!
Some series on this list are designed specifically with the needs of homeschooling families in mind. Others are at times that may be convenient for your schedule. Every program is free, although some do require registration. Click on each program name to see more details about the series, including locations and times.
Daytime Events for Homeschoolers
Storytimes, every weekday beginning January 2, no registration required
Enjoy listening to stories, singing songs, making crafts, playing and other learning with your young children during our storytimes. We have storytimes for every age from birth to pre-school. See our full schedule to find which one is best for your family.
Play Days, beginning January 4, no registration required
Children ages 0-4 and their caregivers play together with developmentally-appropriate toys and make new friends.
Family, Learn and Play Group, beginning February 6, registration required
This five-week program provides a fun learning environment for children ages 0 to 4 to play and socialize. Caregivers are connected to other parents and to resources that will better the development of the child.
Homeschool Mondays, beginning January 8, no registration required
Come join us for fun and learning, but most importantly making new friends. This program will occur the 2nd and 4th Monday and will include science projects, books, crafts, poetry and more. Homeschool Monday is for ages 5 through 12.
Homeschool Robotics: Sphero, January 9 & 16, registration required
Thanks to a Best Buy Community Grant we have 24 brand new Sphero robots that are waiting for kids and teens like you to program, play with, and watch them roll. We bring the Spheros and the iPads, you come with your willingness to play and learn and we'll have a great time! This program is for ages 9 through 18.
Southern Stitches: Family Sewing Club, beginning January 22, no registration required
Do you want to learn how to sew or have a sewing project you want to finish? Join the sewing fun with like-minded people. Limited supplies, including sewing machines, are available for use for practicing or creating small projects. All ages and experience levels are welcome.
Evening and Weekend Events for Homeschoolers
Chess Club, beginning January 8, no registration required
Spend an afternoon of great fun and learn some strategies at chess club. Whether you're brushing up on your skills or learning for the first time, this is the club for you. For ages 7 to 14.
Virtual Reality Experience, beginning January 9, no registration required
Have you ever experienced Virtual Reality before? Try out the brand new HTC Vive, the latest in VR technology. The first eight at the door will get to experience the Vive. Those that do not get to try out the technology will get to watch, which is also very fun. This program is for ages 13 and up (parents and other adults included).
Creative Writing Workshop For Teens, beginning January 11, no registration required
Learn and improve your creative writing skills at this series of workshops. For ages 13 to 18.
Japan Otaku Day, beginning January 20, no registration required
Make new friends, play awesome games, and watch new anime at this monthly program on Japanese pop culture. For ages 13 to 18.
Random Fandom, beginning February 1, no registration required
What's your fandom? If you're a pop culture fan, talk about it here. Meet new people and discuss your favorite books, movies, TV shows, games, comics and more. This program is for ages 13 to 18.
Girls Who Code, beginning February 28, registration required
Girls Who Code is a unique program seeking inspire young girls to actively pursue and explore computer science. Girls Who Code equips girls with concrete technical skills that will provide the foundation for futures in technology, as well as leadership, teamwork and other important life skills. If your daughter has a curious mind and willingness to learn; is between ages 12 and 18; and can commit to attending a semester of classes, you're invited to learn more at our Girls Who Code Information Session on February 8.
Scribblers Print Society, beginning March 7, no registration required
Scribblers Print Society is back this spring with a fresh set of writing challenges! The Arlington Public Library is inspiring daring young writers to take up the challenge of writing fiction, comics, mysteries, and more, all developed from different interesting locations around the city. These workshops are for writers ages 8-12.
