What a sweet prize! Arlington residents Rudy Martinez and Justin Martinez recently snagged the "Most Creative" award for their culinary creation - the Cotton Candy Taco - which will be featured at the upcoming State Fair of Texas.

The father and son duo competed in the 14th annual Big Tex Choice Awards, a contest in which participants submit an original culinary masterpiece hoping for a spot in the State Fair of Texas concession stands. This year's State Fair of Texas, billed as the largest state fair in the country, kicks off Sept. 28 in Dallas.

"We're so excited. It's been a long time since we've won this competition, so much amazing competitors out here," Justin Martinez was quoted in an online article about this year's finalists. "Every year I feel like we have something good. But this year we really feel like we hit a home run with the cotton candy taco."

The Cotton Candy Taco is sure to satisfy any sweet tooth, with its graham-cracker-flavored shell stuffed with chocolate, toasted marshmallow, and organic cane sugar cotton candy. The taco is coated in marshmallow glaze, then topped off with cookie crumbles, marshmallows, and two chocolate covered biscuit sticks.

The Martinez duo are Big Tex Choice Awards veterans, taking home many awards over the years including 2018 Savory Finalist for their "Texas Fried Hill Country," a 2017 Savory Finalist for their "Tamale Donut," and a 2014 creation called "Fried Sweet Texas."
