Stan Hilliard

Congratulations to Stan Hilliard as the September Volunteer of the Month! Stan has been volunteering on a regular basis with the City of Arlington since 2014. Since then he has given more than 1,800 hours to the Library and 149 hours to Animal Services.

Stan considers himself a naturalized Texan. He is originally from Louisiana but got to Texas as fast as he could in 1982. He is a graduate with a Bachelor of Science Degree from Baton Rouge University and a Master's Degree in Accounting from Jackson State University. He moved to Arlington in 1991 and began working for the Social Security Administration as a Claims Representative.

He began volunteering with the City of Arlington when his daughter came to him wanting a pet. He thought a good alternative would be to volunteer for Animal Services. So, he, his wife and daughter all applied to volunteer and to this day they all still donate their time there. Since the Southeast Branch Library was right next door, he asked if he could volunteer at both places!

When asked what he enjoys most about volunteering he said, "just being around people". Stan loves to help people and feels that we are here to serve others. He loves to talk and enjoys chatting to staff and sharing helpful library tips with the public. He said he has learned a lot about people in general and volunteering has opened up a whole new world to him. He is a familiar face at the Southeast and Southwest Branches and well-liked by staff.

"Stan is a wonderful volunteer, a good person and a great man. I appreciate his help and his conversation," Supervisor Tyrone Moore said.

Stan's goal is to volunteer at each library location and he is looking forward to the Downtown Library opening in 2018 so he can donate some time there.
