David Dang left Vietnam in 1978 to pursue his American Dream. After spending some time in New York and California, Dang arrived in Texas in 1997.

Dang bought Ben Thanh Plaza in 2011 and saw an immediate opportunity to expand the property to create something special for East Arlington.

"East Arlington Renewal is beyond grateful to David Dang for choosing to develop Ben Thanh Plaza in East Arlington," said East Arlington Renewal President Sue Phillips. "And with Ben Thanh Plaza at the corner of New York Ave and Pioneer Parkway, we feel blessings falling from the sky. What a shot in the arm to elevate East Arlington."

Ben Thanh now has more than 50 specialty businesses representing Vietnamese, Chinese, Laotian, Thai and Philippine cultures. The shopping center is a true representation of the diversity found here in The American Dream City.

"The City of Arlington has opened its arms and welcomed everyone who wants to do business here, live here and explore their skills," said Dang. "My American Dream is the City's dream. Together, we can build a great City."

The Tarrant County Asian American Chamber of Commerce's annual Eggroll Festival is set for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, September 30 at Ben Thanh Plaza, located at 1818 E. Pioneer Parkway. The festival will feature live entertainment, an Asian dessert contest, wellness screenings, information about local businesses and more.

There will also be festivities throughout the weekend to celebrate Ben Thanh Plaza's one-year anniversary. The Arlington City Council proclaimed October 1, 2017 as "David Dang Day" in Arlington.
