The annual Arlington Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. "Advancing the Dream"Celebration is January 13-16, 2017.

As one of the largest celebrations in the state, this four-day event has consistently attracted thousands of Arlington-area residents each year. This will be the 28th year the Arlington Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Committee has hosted the celebration.

This celebratory weekend begins with the kick-off event, the Advancing the Dream Banquet that will be held Friday, January 13th at 6 p.m. in the Bluebonnet Ballroom at the E.H. Hereford University Center on the campus of UT Arlington. The keynote speaker is Dr. Cornell Williams Brooks, National President and CEO of the NAACP. Tickets are $45 and can be purchased at http://www.UTATickets.com.

The Arlington MLK Day of Service will take place on Monday, January 16, 2017. The Celebration Committee is planning to involve hundreds of volunteers in making a difference in the City of Arlington on this national holiday. Individual volunteers and volunteer groups can sign up on the event's website, www.ArlingtonMLK.com.

On the day of service all volunteers will meet at Mission Arlington/Mission Metroplex, 400 W. South St., at 9 a.m. for their assignments and tools. The first 150 volunteers will receive a MLK T-shirt commemorating the 2017 Arlington MLK Celebration.
