Planners have begun the design phase of the new Southeast Recreation Center that will be located at Webb Community Park.

Funding for the project is provided by the 2014 Bond Funds and will serve the southeast Arlington community.

"The new recreation center in southeast Arlington is an amenity that the community has anticipated for a very long time," Parks Planning Manager De"Onna Garner said. "We believe that the center will activate the park site with dynamic indoor and outdoor spaces that will become a welcoming beacon for the residents. The department hopes that the new development will also provide a source of identity and pride for the community."

The design process is expected to take until August 2018. Construction should begin in January 2018 with completion set for May 2019.

"We and the community are excited the Southeast Recreation Center," said Assistant Parks Director Venera Flores-Stafford. "It offers residents a common setting to congregate for socialization, recreation, and exercise. All of the centers are a core part of the fabric in the community, offering programming for the community"s youth to the active adult."
