A new full-service hotel is slated for Arlington's growing Entertainment District.

Earlier this month, the Arlington City Council approved a development plan for a nine-story, 268-room Drury Plaza Hotel. The proposed hotel would be located in the 100 block of West Road to Six Flags, west of the Lincoln Square Shopping Center.

The developer plans to build the project, which is adjacent to LA Fitness, in two phases. The hotel, approximately 168,458 square feet, would be constructed first, along with a pad site at the corner of West Road to Six Flags and North Center Street for a restaurant. Phase two of the development would be an office or retail building approximately 39,600 square feet in size.

"We believe our development plan is designed for success for us and for Arlington,"said Patrick Turek, director of development for Drury Development."The Drury Plaza will be a new and unique destination where Arlington's guests can stay in Arlington while they shop, eat and visit the many entertainment options in this American Dream City."

The proposed hotel is expected to feature more than 8,300-square-feet of food service space, including an interior restaurant and bar, a business center, a pool and a public plaza with art. The hotel would also include more than 10,000-square-feet of meeting and conference space.

"Our conference space is flexible and efficient for any small to mid-size meeting or event. In Arlington, we will have some meeting rooms on the top floor with spectacular views of AT&T Stadium and the greater Entertainment District,"Turek said.

The Drury Plaza will add to the growing inventory of hotel rooms available to visitors in Arlington's Entertainment District, which is home to the Texas Rangers, Dallas Cowboys, Six Flags Over Texas and other family friendly attractions.

Tourism is a key factor in Arlington's strong economy. Nearly 14 million visitors spent an estimated $1.4 billion in Arlington in 2015, with more than half of those visitors staying overnight, according to an Arlington Convention & Visitors Bureau report.
