Texas Health Resources and Texas Health Arlington Memorial Hospital have made a long-term investment in Arlington's health by donating a combined $50,000 to the campaign for the George W. Hawkes Downtown Library.
Community giving is a vital piece of the public-private partnership that funds the Downtown Library project, but it's also part of the Texas Health Arlington Memorial story. In the 1950s, Arlington residents raised the down payment for the original 75-bed hospital. Texas Health Arlington Memorial has remained dedicated to its community ever since.
Just like Texas Health Arlington Memorial has grown from its early days to a 369-bed, state-of-the-art hospital, the new Downtown Library will showcase modern, evolving library services. The building will feature up-to-date technology, welcoming community areas, and innovative live events. Blake Kretz from Texas Health Arlington Memorial expects the new library will spark "growth in Downtown Arlington, as well as educational opportunities for the entire community."
"We look at health holistically, and the library supports a healthy community in body, mind and spirit," agrees David J. Tesmer of Texas Health Resources. "The library provides an opportunity for people to meet, work, and learn together, which is such an important part of fiber of the community."
These contributions will work support future generations of learning and community engagement in Arlington. The new George W. Hawkes Downtown Library is currently under construction and is scheduled to open to the public in the summer of 2018.
