Arlington residents and City leaders came together to honor and recognize area veterans who have served in the Armed Forces at a special Veterans Day Commemorative Ceremony on November 11, 2016 at the Arlington Veterans Park Memorial.
The ceremony also offered special recognition of veterans awarded The Purple Heart, a United States military decoration awarded in the name of the President to those wounded while serving, on or after April 5, 1917, with the U.S. military.
The eight Rotary Clubs of Arlington sponsor this event. The Heroes of South Vietnam Memorial Foundation and Korean Vietnam Veterans Association also participated in this year's ceremony.
The featured speaker for this year's event was Capt. Jamie Peace, a 2001 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and a U.S. Marine combat infantry veteran with service from 2001 to 2010.
Capt. Peace joined 1st Raider Battalion as a Marine Special Operations Team Commander from 2007-2010, where he deployed to Afghanistan. He analyzed, planned, and commanded more than 35 Special Operations missions with numerous U.S. Special Operations Forces throughout Helmand, Kandahar and Nimruz Provinces.
Tarrant County Criminal Court Judge Brent Carr and the Cowtown Music Club provided special patriotic music for Friday's ceremony. The Men's Chorus, New World United Methodist Church, with Steven Couch directing, sang the National Anthem.
A complimentary luncheon for veterans and guests was also held immediately following the ceremony at the park pavilion.
