Arlington's own Maren Morris took home the New Artist of the Year Award at last night's 2016 Country Music Awards in Nashville, Tennesse, marking another dream come true moment for the 26-year-old singer/songwriter.

Earlier this year, Maren Morris was featured in Billboard Magazine. The article, "Is Maren Morris Nashville's Next Breakout Pop Star?", called the artist's full-length album Hero "one of 2016's most anticipated country releases."

Since the album's release, it debuted at number five on the Billboard 200 chart and number one on the Top Country Albums chart. Her debut single, "My Church", also hit number one on the Country Digital Songs chart in 2016.

Morris is the namesake of her parents' business, Maren Karsen Aveda Salon on 200 N. Mesquite Street, Suite 109, in downtown Arlington. Scott and Kellie Morris' salon, which previously operated in north Arlington, is celebrating its 20th year in business, according to the Downtown Arlington Management Corp. website.
