Levitt Pavilion Launches Children’s Summer Concert Series in June

The Levitt Pavilion will kick off its free Children's Summer Concert Series in June and is also introducing new family movie nights.

The concert series features award-winning children's artists, such as The Boogers and Big Bang Boom, which have proven to be a big hit with audiences of all ages. All Children's Concerts begin at 9:30 a.m. every Wednesday in June. The Levitt Pavilion for the Performing Arts is located at 100 W. Abram St. in Founders Plaza downtown.

"It's about bringing live music to children who may not have had an opportunity to hear it," said Cathy O'Neal, Levitt Pavilion Communications Director.

Big Bang Boom, a three-piece power pop band from North Carolina, hits the stage first on June 8. The artists, Chuck Folds, Steve Willard and Eddie Rocker, mix hip-hop, pop, country and other genres to create music that both kids and their parents can enjoy.

Secret Agent 23 Skidoo, described as equal parts Dr. Seuss and Dr. Dre, is a pioneer of positive family hip-hop music, according to the Levitt Pavilion's website. The band, which has eight No. 1 hits on SiriusXM, is coming to the Levitt on June 15.

The award-winning band The Boogers, whose punk rock style is similar to the Ramones, returns to Arlington for a morning concert on June 22. Some of their original songs include "This Song's About Transportation" and "I Don't Need To Be Worried."

"The kids love it. They all get down in front of the stage and have these little kid mosh pits," O'Neal said.

Love zydeco music and Creole culture? Be sure to check out Terrance Simien & Creole for Kidz, who round out the concert series on June 29. Grammy Award-winning artist Simien collaborated on a song for Disney's "Princess & the Frog" film.

Along with the morning concerts, a new activity has been added to Wednesday evenings, family movie nights, thanks to a grant from Arlington's Women Inspiring Philanthropy. The Levitt added a large video screen last fall thanks to grants from the Arlington Tomorrow Foundation and the Mortimer & Mimi Levitt Foundation.

"We are really excited about adding family movie nights this year. We really hope people come out and enjoy seeing a movie on the lawn," O'Neal said.

The family friendly films haven't been selected yet, but the titles and movie times will be announced in coming weeks on the Levitt's webpage.
