A new type of clinic in Arlington is designed to provide more convenient and personalized primary health care for seniors.

Late last year, Texas Health Resources and Texas Health Physician's Group (THPG) launched a new clinic model called Texas Health Your Health Center. These clinics aim to help address the growing medically underserved senior population in North Texas.

After extensive consumer research, a set of clinical standards was developed to specifically address the needs of patients over age 65. Texas Health Your Health Center locations will feature larger exam rooms to accommodate walkers, wheelchairs and accompanying family members, and will have wheel-chair accessible weight scales. Hallways will have hand railings and initial visit patient forms will be printed in large-sized font.

Texas Health Your Health Center nurse practitioners provide timely and improved access to care, with more opportunities for longer consultations than one might have with a physician. The scheduling processes allow for visits where the staff has more time to get to know patients, their medical history and their goals for good health and wellness.

One of these Texas Health Your Health centers is open in central Arlington, off Matlock Road near Pioneer Parkway. Other Texas Health Your Health centers are located in Plano and Burleson.

"Developing new access points and models of care is a part of our patient-centered, consumer-driven focus," Dr. Dan Varga, chief clinical officer and senior executive vice president of Texas Health, said in a press release. "By focusing on certain geographies without adequate Medicare coverage by existing THPG clinics, Texas Health helps close the primary care gap for a growing demographic in a cost-effective care model."
