Pardon Our Dust

With the construction of 101 Center and work about to commence on the new George W. Hawkes Central Library, exciting things are happening in downtown Arlington. But with that progress comes temporary inconveniences.

In early July, construction will start on the new $30 million downtown library and the new City Council Chamber/Community Room. This construction will have an impact on the visitor parking at City Hall. We ask for your patience and understanding as we go through this exciting and vital redevelopment of our downtown area.

Below is an explanation of the parking changes and when those changes will begin.

Parking

  • The parking lot north of City Hall will close at 7 a.m. Tuesday, July 5. Public parking for City Hall will be shifted to the City Hall West Parking lot (marked in blue with a P for public parking on the map below), which is currently reserved for employees. At least 55 spaces of those spaces will become reserved for public parking.
  • Public parking spaces are also available along Front Street east of N.L. Robinson Boulevard north of the Union Pacific railroad tracks, employees can use the public parking spaces (marked in blue on the map below).
  • In all, more than 1,171 parking spaces are open to the public within a three block radius of City Hall.

Handicap Accessibility

  • Six handicap accessible parking spaces for use by visitors and employees will also be located in the southeast corner of the City Hall West Lot, close to the intersection of Abram and Pecan streets. This will provide convenient access to City Hall " s south entrance, which will become the main public entrance during library construction. A handicap accessible ramp will be constructed at the south City Hall entrance. The north entrance, which is also handicap accessible, will remain open.

Sidewalks

  • During construction, pedestrians can access City Hall " s north and south entrances using the Center Street sidewalk. Please follow signage used to indicate pedestrian pathways through construction zones.
