Kickoff Summer Reading

This weekend, the six main branches of the Arlington Public Library system will host simultaneous kickoff events to celebrate the start of the 2016 Summer Reading Club.

The East Arlington, Northeast, Woodland West, Lake Arlington, Southwest, and Southeast branches will each hold come-and-go kickoff events from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, June 4. Children will enjoy activities including arts and crafts, scavenger hunts, a giant hopscotch game, and more. The whole family can sign up to participate in the Summer Reading Club during these kickoff events.

By participating in Summer Reading Club, children and adults of all ages are challenged to read throughout the summer for a chance to earn prizes. Children ages 0-4 who complete 10 books and six learning activities can earn a t-shirt, book, swim pass, free ticket to a Texas Rangers game, and various coupons. Children in grades K-6 who complete at least five hours of reading can earn a drawstring bag, book, swim pass, free ticket to a Texas Rangers game, and various coupons. Teens in grades 7-12 who complete at least five hours can earn a drawstring bag, swim pass, free ticket to a Texas Rangers game, and various coupons. Adults who complete at least five hours will be entered into a drawing for an Arlington family staycation.

For those unable to attend the kickoff events, registration can also be completed online beginning June 4.

In addition to reading challenges, Arlington residents can participate in free programs for all ages throughout the summer. A full schedule can be viewed online, and printed program brochures will be available in branches beginning June 4.
