Arlington Genealogical Society members presented the Arlington Public Library Foundation with a donation of $5,000 for the new George W. Hawkes Central Library on Friday, May 27.

The donation comes during the public phase of the library's capital campaign, DREAM: CENTRAL. The campaign is seeking to raise the final $4 million needed to acquire the furniture, fixtures, and technology that will fill the interior of the state-of-the-art library.

'The Arlington Genealogical Society is such an important part of our new library, as the building will feature a local history and genealogy section that has dedicated workspace for research and meetings,' director of libraries Yoko Matsumoto said. 'Their donation is a wonderful gesture that shows the mutual support we both have for each other.'

Shirley Simpson, a member of the society for more than 30 years, had the honor of presenting the check to Arlington Library Foundation members Jo McGovern and Carole Hoyer.

Also present at the presentation were AGS members Jan Penland, Pete Jacobs, Jeannie Schemensky, Dorothy Rencurrel, Maryann Conrad, Steven Brown, and Tom Cogdell. Director of Libraries Yoko Matsumoto and Development Director Andi Davis were present on behalf of the library.
