Arlington drivers can now enjoy a smoother ride along Center Street, as Public Works and Transportation announces the completion of a significant improvement project that began in the summer of 2014.
The $4.5 million project, funded through the 2008 Bond Election, rebuilt a nearly 1-mile stretch of the four-lane road from Arkansas Lane to Nottinghill Gate Street, fixing things like potholes and dips in the road.
The roadway was reconstructed using concrete pavement with underground drainage, sidewalks, and streetlights. The project also includes water and sanitary sewer improvements.
Keith Brooks, Engineering Operations Manager for Public Works and Transportation, says the upgrades made to Center Street was a top priority and they will be immediately noticeable to Arlington drivers.
"Center Street is an important roadway for our residents and we're excited to be able to provide them with a smoother and easier driving experience," said Brooks.
The Center Street Rebuild Project is part of the Arlington City Council's priority to "Enhance Regional Mobility."
Council recently approved the reconstruction of Great Southwest Parkway from Avenue E to Abram Street, which is set to be completed in 2017.
