Arlington ISD Celebrates School Board Recognition Month

The Arlington ISD is recognizing its Board of Trustees and Superintendent Dr. Marcelo Cavazos as a part of School Board Recognition Month at tonight's board meeting.

The AISD Board, which oversees the 11th-largest school district in the state of Texas, has put an emphasis on educational excellence and providing innovative and rigorous learning experiences for all AISD students. In the past year, Cavazos and the Board have been a part of many exciting initiatives, including: the opening of two fine arts/dual language academies, the new Diane Patrick Elementary School and the district's STEM Academy.

Looking forward, the district will open a Boys & Girls Clubs of Arlington after-school center at the new Peach Elementary and an outdoor performance area in partnership with Texas Trust Credit Union at the Jones Academy of Fine Arts and Dual Language, both in the fall 2016. A partnership with the University of North Texas that will allow AISD students to earn dual credit in fine arts was announced this week, as well.

As the Board is being thanked for their commitment and contributions to the AISD, each member will be presented with framed artwork by fourth-grade students from Rankin Elementary.

Being honored tonight are President Jamie Sullins, Vice President Dr. Aaron Reich, Secretary John Hibbs, Assistant Secretary Kecia Mays, Polly Walton, Kristen Hudson and Bowie Hogg, along with Cavazos.
