The East Arlington Branch Library has been closed and will remain closed until next week because of what the City's Facility Services believes is the presence of bed bugs.

On Thursday'morning, a patron notified branch staff that she was bitten by a bug while sitting in a chair the day before. Library staff contacted Facility Services, which found what they believe to be bed bugs in the building's carpet and furniture. As a precaution, the branch, located at 1624 New York Avenue, was closed. Pest control contractors are scheduled to exterminate as soon as possible.

'We are working to reopen this branch, which we know is a vital resource for East Arlington, as soon as possible. We understand the importance of library services that are offered to our residents so we are extending hours at the Southeast Branch to ensure patrons can access key resources during the closure,' said Libraries Director Yoko Matsumoto.

An update on when the East Branch will reopen will be posted on MyArlingtonTX.com next week.

The Southeast Arlington Branch Library, 900 SE Green Oaks Boulevard, will be open for extended hours of 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. next week until the East Arlington Branch reopens.
